Issue: How can I get my bookkeeping sorted out if I have no experience and I need someone with experience?

Graham (Client): I am so frustrated. How am I supposed to keep track of my expenses and income if I have no experience in bookkeeping or accounting? I don’t have time to figure this out. I really need someone who knows what they are doing to keep me out of trouble.

James (Accountant): There are options for managing your bookkeeping. You can hire an accounting firm to help you with your bookkeeping. They can set you up with a cloud-based software such as QuickBooks Online or Xero. If you want more privacy, they can help you by using desktop-based software such as QuickBooks Desktop and Sage 50.

Graham (Client): What is the difference?

James (Accountant): Cloud-based bookkeeping can be accessed any time you have an Internet connection. However, anybody who steals your login information will be able to access your software.

Desktop-based bookkeeping can only be accessed by those who have a licensed copy of the desktop software and more steps would be required to access the information if you were the client.

Graham (Client): Would an accountant be able to help me with either course of action?

James (Accountant): Absolutely.
